Cattle Guard Steak House in Alvarado

Just moved to the area and this is our new favorite place to go. My husband gets the ribeye and I like the flat iron steaks. Always tender and cooked right. The onion rings are great and mashed potatoes are wonderful. The service is always fast and friendly too. Really enjoy this place and will probably become regulars.

It was awful. My steak, was tough, fatty and tasted like the cool sprinkled the entire bottle of steak seasoning on it. I couldn't eat it. They brought me another one and again way over seasoned but this time it was almost raw and didn't eat that one either. The corn was horrible and way to spicy. My husband had a burger and didn't eat all his either. It was just a horrible experience. For the prices go to a real steakhouse. On a good note our waitress was good.

Great little steak house. I always get the fried steak and it is good, don't forget a side of the Cattle Corn. Usually the service is good, the good has always been good.

I liked the atmosphere, the food was really good, albiet a bit slow to come out. You can tell that they make all their burgers by hand.My burger patty was a bit on the small side when it came out, so they made me a whole other patty free of charge.9/10 would absolutely eat here again.

This place is truely amazing, u can get anywhere from a fresh salad all the way to the juiciest steak! The cooks have a passion for what they do and r always persistent with the way u order ur steak! Their meat is always fresh never frozen that just makes their hamburgers more delicious! Kids are always welcome and so r vegetarians oh yeah and don't forget to byob at ur own will the customer service is always at the top of their game. And always leaves u leaving with a full belly and great big smile on ur face!

Been there twice, service was slow for this small place, food was more like cafeteria or truck stop quality. They can't even get a burger order right & the fries are saturated with grease. Will NEVER go back again.

The 8 0z stake was 3 oz of fat and gristle. The chicken fired stake was mostly chicken fry, the gravy was nasty, and right out of a box. I was not impressed by the service, or the food. The Potatoes were good, as was the salad. But I came for the Stake! For my money; this place is the "taste of disappointment". If McDonald's started serving stakes and chicken fried stakes, this place would be out of business.

Steak was under cooked and we had to go buy beer at the gas station down the road. We were a big group though and they handled us well enough.

Food is okay, but the decor is not very good at all. Cheap-o tables and chairs, uncomfortable, more like a cafe that happens to serve steak. This place really needs a makeover. Super-cheesy on the outside too. The boring sign on the building indicates what kind of a restaurant you'll find when you walk in the doors.

Not Cattle Gaurd any more. Get weather Google it's call Nicky's Saucy Italian now. It's excellent.

Horrible service and food. Everything was tasteless. Even the tea. Waitress way in training and never said a word to us. And trainer was very rude. May never get another shot from us

If you want some good home cooked food, this is the place. Very nice place, and great staff.

Went to Cleburne location to celebrate a co worker's birthday. We told the waitress it was his birthday, she didn't even acknowledge it. Not sure of your policy regarding birthdays, but the least she could have done is wish him a Happy Birthday. We were literally 1 of 3 tables in the entire restaurant for the 1.5+ hours we were there, yet our drinks continuously fell empty and we were rarely checked on. The waitress seemed like we were more a bother to her than anything. A gentleman came in about 30 minutes before we left, as soon as he sat down, she sat with him and we never got any attention from her after that. I made eye contact with her multiple times, but she made no attempt to come check on us. This was our 1st experience with Cattle Guard and most definitely be the last.

Fantastic steaks, real mashed potatoes and well seasoned green beans in a comfortable atmosphere.

The "new" restaurant had sticky tables, almost like there was a tacky type of finish on the wood. I ordered a NY strip and my husband ordered a ride yet. They were cooked PERFECTLY. not too red, not overdone. The steaks were heavy on the fat content and lacking in seasoning which was disappointing. The side potato is huge, way bigger than it really should be, but tasted great. I ordered greenbeans thinking I'd be getting fresh pan cooked or roasted green beans, it I got CANNED green beans. Don't get me wrong, I feed that at Thanksgiving to my family but I dont expect it at an expensive steakhouse. The waitress also described the cattle corn side as a creamed corn with parmesan on it, which ended up being a bowl of seasoned corn. All in all, bleh.

I usually do not post reviews but I was so disappointed with the steak here. I wish that I could post a picture of it on here. The price I paid for this steak and to have at least a third but close to half of it to be fat. You would think that they would not allow this to go out to customer. I took a picture and shared with family. We have all been wanting to try this place. Very disappointed. We Will Not be returning. I will drive south to Waco in the future. Staff was very courteous and the place has a very pleasant atmosphere.

The steaks were great! The amount of food was amazing with huge portions of sides and appetizers. This was a super find for us.

I was here in November 2016 and the food and service was more than outstanding! Love this place, sweet taste of Texas!
